These translate into a strong need to reduce a significant energy drain and resulting drive range loss due to auxiliary electrical loads.

BEVs vs. FCEVs: Competing or Complementary Technologies?

The relationship between energy efficiency and design range for different types of vehicles is shown in Figure 4. On short range, BEVs achieve the highest efficiency level. However, as the range increases, internal combustion engine vehicles and FCEVs become more efficient. On long range, FCEVs provide the maximum efficiency.
