Lithium, Chemical Element

The alkali metals are the elements that make up Group 1 (IA) of the periodic table. The periodic table is a chart that shows how chemical elements are related to one another. The alkali metals include sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, and rancium. Lithium is also the least dense of all metals. It has a density about half that of water.

Valences of the Chemical Elements

You may assume the valences of the chemical elements—the number of electrons with which an atom will bond or form—are those that can be derived by looking at the groups (columns) of the periodic table. While these are the most common valences, the real behavior of electrons is less simple.

Naming ions and ionic compounds (article) | Khan Academy

To name main group anions, we add the suffix -ide to the end of the element''s name. Cations and anions combine to form ionic compounds. Ionic compounds are named with the cation first and the anion last. The same convention is used when writing their chemical formulas. Ionic compounds must be electrically neutral.
